My wife, 17 month old daughter and I went to CANZ for lunch on a Monday. There were just a few other patrons there, so it was not busy. We walked in to be immediately greeted and seated by someone who was I guess both the hostess and our waitress. It seemed that the table sat after us was also greeted by someone else who was their waitress as well. I can see how this might be a problem on a busy night or weekend, unless they have a dedicated hostess for those busier times. Nonetheless, the waitress was dressed in tiny shorts and a tight tank top--think Hooters, except the clothes are black. My wife and I didn't mind considering we go to Hooters every now and then! The decor of the place was sportsbar-eque with tons of wood details and TVs. The bar was complete with beer can columns lining the outside of it. Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because our wood table was so lopsided I felt drunk just sitting at it.
The waitress immediately brought over a high chair and a bowl of popcorn for us to munch on. The menu was pretty typical of any Roadhouse or "Ale House." We decided to try the loaded cheese fries (wife's pregnant craving), I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and my wife ordered a burger with american cheese swapped with a salad instead of fries. The loaded fries were honestly delicious. Crunchy, yet soft, with just enough cheese, bacon and scallions with a light ranch drizzle on top. Once you get passed all thats covered in ranch, you get the bottom layer with nacho cheese. It was a surprise and a nice change of flavor. Didn't expect them to be so good! A little overpriced at $7.95 but I'd gladly get them again!
My buffalo chicken sandwich looked good when it was placed on the table but once I began eating it, I was disappointed. It was extremely dry yet greasy from being way overcooked and it was so thin! Like 1/4" thin including breading! The description says it is "smothered' in hot sauce but it was far from it. At $11.95, I say it was a total ripoff! PASS!
My wife's burger on the other hand, was cooked to perfection. She always cuts her burgers and sandwiches in half so when she did she just had to show me how perfectly cooked it was with the juices running down the bun. She enjoyed that! We were also surprised that the side salad had healthy mixed greens rather than just iceberg or romaine. It did cost $1.50 to swap with the fries though. There were diced red onions and tomatoes on top and she enjoyed it with honey mustard dressing.
We also ordered the fried oreos which were great. It was a good ending to our meal.
Every review I read before coming here seemed to be from people who went during the nighttime or weekend rush, so the next time I come here will be during those times. Who knows, my experience might be totally different, but for lunchtime, this place could be a total hit!
