My cousin's wife wanted to surprise my cousin for his birthday by having a bunch of friends and family go out to dinner at Ciao Baby. I knew it was in a strip on Sunrise Highway and when I went into the parking lot, I was shocked at how packed it was. There was really no place to park unless you wanted valet. We lucked out with a spot right outside on Sunrise Highway. Thank god for reservations because we probably would have waited hours otherwise.

We were seated right next to the kitchen so we saw everything that was coming out. Everything looked delicious as it passed by, especially the desserts. We had a party of 10 people, so many decided to share the family-style entrees. The appetizers are also meant to be shared, so a rice ball was ordered, expecting it to be split between 5 people. My wife and I ordered from their smaller menu because we wanted to try other things. I ordered the braised short rib and she ordered the beef ragu with raviolis.

The food portions were huge! The rice ball ended up being split between everyone at the table because it was so large. The entrees looked, smelled and tasted delicious. Only minor complaint was that my wife's raviolis were undercooked to the point that some parts were still crunchy, but she didn't say anything and ate them anyway because they were so good.

Even though we were all stuffed, a few of us ordered cannolis for dessert. Our waitress brought over the samples of desserts and we thought it was a joke at first.  She said the samples were life-size, yet each sample (other than cannolis) was about the size of my head. One piece of cake could be split between at least 4 people if not more.

Service was great the entire evening. We were always checked on even though the place was filled with people. Granted, where we were seated did get a bit annoying at times because we sometimes had food flying over head due to our proximity to the kitchen, but it was never really a problem. The prices were decent as well, especially considering the portion sizes.

This is a place we will definitely try to come back to if we're in the area.
