We wanted to go to a seafood place on the water and to try somewhere we had never been before so we ended up going to the Snapper Inn. It is somewhat tucked away in a very nice area of Oakdale. When you walk in, the place looks large and spacious. There is a nautical theme throughout but the place feels a bit dated, especially the carpet. We walked around the premises after our dinner; on the pier and also checked out their outdoor seating area which was very nice.
When we were seated, we were taken care of right away. The service is that of a fine dining restaurant, which some may consider this place to be due to the prices, although the dress code is casual. We ordered the baked clams and new england clam chowder for appetizers and the grilled salmon and prime rib for entrees. We were shocked when the $10 baked clams showed up--two tiny baked clams barely stuffed and mostly bread crumbs. The chowder tasted good, but not necessarily "award winning" as they claim. The salmon was good, not great. Just any ordinary salmon dish. The prime rib however was excellent. We ordered dessert to split, a creme brulee. Talk about tiny! It was maybe a centimeter deep and that is being generous. It tasted okay, slightly burnt in some spots and for how small it was I wouldn't pay over $4 for it. I don't remember how much I paid but whatever I did, it was too much.
Like I said already, service was great. Always attentive, friendly, filling our water glasses, asking if we needed anything, etc. The view was beautiful and slightly made up for the o-k food, but not enough. I'm tempted to try it again now that the outdoor seating will be open but I don't know if I can bring myself back there after the mediocre food and high prices. I can't bring myself to round the 6.5 rating up to 7 because it's just not worth it in my book!
