We finally decided to give this place another try after our bad experience the first time. When we arrived we were glad to see they opened up the front so their main dining room could have an open outdoor feel. As we walked in, we were promptly greeted and sat, already a huge change from our first time there.
For an appetizer we ordered the bacon cheese fries. We ordered the LI Ale House burger and The Raider, a french dip sandwich. The appetizer was a gooey, cheesy nest of fries with bacon, scallions and pico de gallo, drizzled with ranch. It definitely hit the spot and we were practically full before our meals even came out. The burger was enjoyable although it was a bit overcooked for medium. The Raider sandwich had delicious roast beef and the garlic roll made it extra special. The sandwich and burger came with cole slaw which tasted like plain cabbage. We also tried a Long Island Ice Tea, which although tasted good, was a bit overpriced.
Our waitress was friendly and courteous the whole time, checking in on us and refilling our waters when we needed. There was a little bit of a wait for an unsweetened iced tea and 10-15 minutes later the waitress apologized and said it was taking so long because they had to brew it and she didn't want to serve me hot tea.
Overall, it was a nice lunch for us. We were sitting practically outside, with the nice breeze coming through. The food was good and service was great. They had a sign outside for their karaoke events and live bands coming up, which I'm guessing takes place in the dining room on the right side of the place because it is completely open without tables. It seems like a place we would return to.
We've read reviews on this place and they were so much better than what our experience was. We came here for lunch and the place wasn't busy at all, but apparently it was too busy for them to handle, even with such few tables being occupied.
After walking in to find a tiny, unoccupied hostess stand with a sign behind it, we walked straight through the corridor to the bar straight ahead. We stood there for several minutes wondering if anyone knew we were even there. We were finally told to sit wherever we wanted and a highchair and our menus would be brought over. The waitress brought the high chair but no menus and walked away. She came back a few minutes later to take our drink order and brought our drinks (water and soda). You would think we ordered mixed drinks with how long it took to get them! She finally brought our menus after we had been sitting there at least 10-15 minutes. We quickly decided what we wanted because we were hungry and the waitress walked by us several times without checking on us. She went to ignore us a third time when she stopped herself and turned around in a way as if she thought, oh yea! There's a table over there and I need to take their order!
We ordered the bacon cheese fries as an appetizer and two burgers for our meals. We were waiting, and waiting, and had empty glasses. The waitress didn't come by our table at all since taking our order (even though there was a larger group sat behind us so she wasn't checking on them either) and she finally came back to our section to clean the table next to us (one of 2 dirty tables). She looked straight at us and she just walked away. At that point, we decided it was time to leave.
35 minutes, not even an app and empty glasses, we had enough and left. She did however keep talking to a table to the side who seemed to be friends of hers. We were her 4th table, 3 of which only had two people seated. It shouldn't be so difficult to have decent service, especially on a Saturday, during lunch!
We walked in slightly hungry, and left starving and extremely disappointed. We decided Wendy's was a better place to spend our money. Although we told ourselves we would not return, we feel that perhaps we should try again when the bitter feelings settle.
