Tidewaters Grill and Tavern
1 West Main Street
Babylon, NY 11702
We came to Tidewaters on a whim because we knew it had changed names since the last time we were there (when it was Armadillo Grille). If you've ever been to its predecessor, you'd realize that Tidewaters does not look much different. I can't recall what the main color was but now it is clearly blue. Blue everywhere! There wasn't much of a theme except a few boats here and there and there was a noticeably decent amount of TVs lining the walls. We went for lunch and there was only one other table seated. The place was dead. We were seated rather quickly and our waitress was very nice but the food was SO underwhelming.
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich (with loaded fries) and my husband ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. My husband's buffalo chicken sandwich was great! Crunchy, breaded chicken, good level of spice, moist, you name it. I wish I could say the same for my meal. The menu describes the grilled chicken sandwich as juicy, seasoned and grilled. Let's just say the chicken "patty" seemed as if it was nothing more than processed meat you'd expect from a cafeteria (you know, the rubbery kind), it was far from seasoned and it came on a crap bun. It had no taste at all. It wasn't juicy and actually rather dry so I had to ask for mayo (which you think would come standard on the side, but it doesn't). I wanted to share some chicken with my 2 year old since most places provide a decent enough portion to do so and it was so small that I left hungry. She didn't want to eat so I ended up eating the whole thing and still left hungry! I asked for the fries to be loaded after reading the appetizer, expecting gooey, melted cheese and instead it was AGAIN processed crap!!! It was $10.95 for the sandwich and fries as is and I don't remember how much they upcharged for the loaded fries but I don't think I should have paid more than $6.50. For Babylon, the prices are below average so I guess I shouldn't have expected great quality food. But wait--I thought I read somewhere--
"We promise to create every dish to order using only the freshest, finest ingredients -- from Angus beef to outstanding seasonal seafood.
We promise never to use a microwave oven, and prepare your meal with only the choicest produce, grains and vegetables." (Excerpt from the restaurant website)
I don't know if having that on the website helps the owner sleep at night but it's far from the truth.. dare I say it again... It's CRAP!
I know I sound bitter and negative, especially after the fact that my husband did in fact have a good meal, but even he agrees the place sucked and that we're never going back! Maybe if the manager paid more attention to a positive guest experience instead of chatting with his staff at the bar during downtime the place would have a chance. As is, don't just walk away, RUN!
