We love Mexican food so when we read the great reviews of Mangoes in Bethpage, we just had to try it out--plus, we LOVE Margarita's in Hicksville, and to my knowledge, they are sister restaurants.  Since we saw on their website that they had lunch and dinner prices, we thought it would be a good idea to go for a late lunch. When we got there and received dinner menus, we asked about lunch, but we were told it ends at 2. We just missed it!

Chips and salsa were brought to the table, and they were great. The salsa was spicy and not overly chunky--just how I like it, but might be too spicy for those who prefer mild. I could've filled up on just chips and salsa and another appetizer but we decided on some pretty big meals. We were thinking about the tableside guacamole, but knew if we got it, that's all we would have room for. We ordered the chimichangas and a combo with an enchillada, a flauta and a tostada to be split with the kids. Two others with us ordered the Burrito Supreme with beef.

When the food came, each plate came with a side of rice and beans covered with cheese, as well as a large mound of shredded lettuce and a dollup of sour cream and guacamole, with the exception of no guacamole on mine. It was very reminiscent of the food at Margarita's. Everything in the combo tasted delicious with the tostada as the highlight of it, ebut the chimichanga was bordering on bland. Those with the burritos didn't realize until half way through that it wasn't the correct one--the one they ordered was with beef and the one they received was the Burrito Delux with Chicken and Chorizo. They still really enjoyed it nonetheless.

Throughout our lunch, the place was quiet with no other tables. It seems we just missed the lunch rush, if there was one. The service was very good and the staff was attentive to our needs. The second one of our kids dropped a fork, our waiter was right there to replace it.

As for the decor, the walls were covered in Mexican tapestries, sombreros and the like. When comparing to Margarita's, it feels like it needs just little updating whereas Margaritas feels modern and upscale. While nothing was bad, there are other restaurants that serve authentic Mexican that we would prefer going to for overall experience, like CaraCara and Margaritas.
